This iconic art deco cinema is much more than just a movie theater. Sure, you can see the latest movies here, but the main attraction is actually its Grand Auditorium, a 2800-seat salle that hosts world premiers, showings of the biggest blockbusters, sing-along movie nights, live orchestra ciné concerts, and much more.
The luxurious interior transports you back to a time when going to the movies was a truly special occasion. Walking in, you might think you’re at the theater or even the opera. There are balconies, loges, and of course those magnificently rich plush red velvet seats.
In addition to the Grand Auditorium, Le Grand Rex is also a ‘regular’ movie theater, showing recent releases on your typical screens. The majority of films are shown in ‘VF’ (Version Française), however, so if you don’t speak French, you might want to pick a different spot for a plain ole movie night.
For real fans of the silver screen, or if you’re traveling with kids and want to do something fun and a bit out of the ordinary, you can also take the Rex Studios Backstage Tour. The 45-minute interactive tour covers the theater’s rich history, the art of filmmaking, lets you see props and memorabilia from famous films, and even makes you the star of your own mini-movie!
Urbansider Tip: Tickets go very fast for events in the Grand Auditorium, so be sure to check the agenda several months in advance if this is on your must-do list.
