Parc de Bagatelle

Hidden inside the Bois de Boulogne in the west of Paris, the Parc de Bagatelle is perhaps one of the best-kept secrets of the 16th Arrondissement.

Born from a bet between Marie Antoinette and Count of Artois, this sprawling park includes perfectly manicured lawns, a small château, several water features, a rose garden, and plenty of peacocks strutting around. There’s also a small restaurant and an 18th-century orangerie that hosts classical music concerts.

Unlike most parks in Paris, Parc de Bagatelle charges a small entry fee from April 1 to Sept 30 (2.60€, payable in cash or by card). But I promise you it’s worth it!

As soon as you step through the park gates, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the grounds of a French countryside manor. You won’t believe you’re only a 5-minute bus ride from the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Among Paris visitors, the Parc de Bagatelle is best known for its magnificent rose garden. With over 10,000 roses of various colors and scents, it’s absolutely splendid on a sunny spring or summer day.

But it isn’t actually my favorite thing about this park. So what do I go for?

The ponds, bridges, and waterfalls.

To me, there’s nothing more relaxing than the sound of rushing water and watching families of ducks paddle lazily along.

So if you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Paris, I highly recommend a visit to this hidden gem of a park. Whether you’re interested in nature and history, or simply need a break from the city, the Parc de Bagatelle is the perfect destination.
