Significantly smaller than Paris’s famous Père Lachaise or Montparnasse cemeteries, Passy’s little graveyard is much more manageable and still very atmospheric. Views of the Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower add to the enchantment of this cemetery, whose grandiose Art Deco-style entrance belies its relatively young age. Although not exactly studded with the famous names other cemeteries in Paris can boast, the Cimetière de Passy hosts an impressive memorial to soldiers who died during WWI on its outer wall. Inside, among the roughly 2600 graves lie the remains of composer Claude Debussy, perfumer Jacques Guerlain, fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, as well as those of painter Edouard Manet who was buried with Berthe Morisot, his student and sister-in-law.

Other graves worth seeing include those of aviator Dieudonné Costes, who has a lovely gravestone marking his flight achievements across the globe; an unmarked grave covered with a beautiful blue mosaic of a horse, and on another tomb, a life-sized bronze statue attempts to get in or out. Unsettling perhaps, but eerily beautiful.
