While there is some pretty steep competition in the battle for the Best Park in Paris, the Parc des Buttes Chaumont in the 19th Arrondissement is the hands-down winner as far as I’m concerned. Maybe it’s because I lived nearby, but the stunning vistas, rushing waterfalls, and little lake might have something to do with it.

The fifth largest park in Paris, the Les Buttes Chaumont offers so much to see and explore. Rain or shine, head up to the Belvedere to get a panoramic view of Paris with Montmartre off in the distance (hello amazing sunset shots!) or wander around the literal miles of roads and walkways. In spring and summer, picnic with friends next to one of the small streams that trickle throughout the park or take a book and blanket and sunbathe solo by the lake.

For those visiting Paris with kids, Les Buttes Chaumont also has three playgrounds, a puppet theater, and a few fairground-type attractions (shoot the duck, pony rides, etc.). There’s also a small concession stand down by the lake selling refreshments and ice cream!

A few hip bars and restaurants are lucky enough to call this Parisian paradise home. I recommend day drinking — responsibly of course! — at the (very) casual Rosa Bonheur, or having a yummy cocktail in the evening at the chicer, but still relaxed, Pavillon Puebla. Locals love these spots though, so get there early to get a seat!
