There are endless options for a perfect picnic spot in Paris, but I’m pleased to claim this secret spot to myself – at least I like to believe so!

It seems few know that along the banks of the Seine there’s a cobblestone path that stretches from the Pont des Arts and ends right before the Pont Royal. This spot is located on the Rive Gauche, offering a stunning, complementary view of the Louvre’s façade. Not too shabby!

To get here by Metro Line 1, you can stop at station Palais-Royal – Musée du Louvre, or ride the RER C and stop at station Musée d’Orsay. I prefer the metro even though it’s about a 10-minute walk to the bridge.

Cross the bridge to get to the left bank of the river, and then descend the steps (as if you were going towards Pont des Arts). The staircase is easily missed because of the many street-side booksellers – called bouquinistes – lining the path, so keep your eyes peeled! Once here, pull out your blanket, relax, and watch the sunlight play on the water underneath the arches of the bridge. De rien!
