Tucked between hotels and hidden behind boutiques in the Bas-Marais, the Jardin des Rosiers – Joseph-Migneret is a charming little park that the locals know well and are eager to keep as their own little secret. But everyone has the right to know that this peaceful public garden exists!

After visiting the nearby Musée Carnavalet, head here to take a quick nap near the bamboo and birch trees, or to literally stop and smell the roses that gave this garden its name. If you’re hungry after a long day of sightseeing or shopping, grab a falafel to-go from Miznon, then cross the street to have a quiet lunch on the lawn.

To find your way to this hidden spot, pass through the somewhat imposing entrance at 35-37 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois and then cross through the courtyard of the Hôtel des Coulanges. Should you find the large blue doors closed, go around the block to 10 Rue des Rosiers to reach the park.

If you’ll be staying in Paris for a while, and if you’ve got a green thumb, you could even join the Association des jardiniers du 4e (Gardeners’ association of the 4th arrondissement) to work in the garden with local Parisians. The group meets Saturday mornings at 11:00 and offers many different gardening activities. For more information, contact jardiniers4@gmail.com – en français s’il vous plaît !
