UPDATE: Circus Bakery has closed.
Last week, I got a sudden, strong craving for a cinnamon roll. This isn’t something that happens to me often, and believe it or not, in a land full of pastries, this particular treat can be hard to come by. What was I to do?!
Luckily, I remembered seeing something about a new boulangerie in Paris on Instagram, one that apparently serves excellent cinnamon buns. So, I decided to give in to my sweet tooth and my social media-fueled curiosity, and finally head to Circus Bakery.
Tucked in a small, stone-walled shop just a few steps from the Insta-famous Odette bakery (I’m sure you’ve seen photos of the black and green storefront), Circus opened in October 2018 and has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best bakeries in Paris.
And for good reason!
Their organic sourdough cinnamon bun was everything I wanted it to be: warm, fluffy, and just the right amount of cinnamon. Délicieux ! Although it’s a bit pricey for a pastry at 6€, it was bigger than I expected and was absolutely worth it to me for this special treat. They have a small bench inside if you’d like to enjoy your snack sur place, but I recommend taking your patisserie with you and strolling around the charming streets in the neighborhood, or eating it along the Seine which is only a block away.
The bakery has much more than cinnamon rolls though, with other (cheaper) sourdough breakfast breads and rolls, apple pies and tartes, as well as wood-fire sandwiches for lunch and sourdough pizzas for dinner Thursdays – Sundays.
I’ll definitely be back to try some more!
