Often overshadowed by the famed Tuileries Gardens, the Jardin du Luxembourg, is a Parisian favorite. Nicknamed “Luco” by residents, the Luxembourg Gardens have something for everyone.

If you appreciate architecture, be sure to check out the beautiful Medici Fountain and the impressive Palace of Luxembourg (home to the French Senate), both built by Marie de Medici in the 1600s. For plant lovers, the Orangerie is home to more than 180 different plants and the greenhouses showcase over 400 orchid species. Kids will have a great time playing in the enormous playground filled with all sorts of slides and swings. Or, to engage in a more traditional Parisian childhood activity, they could rent a toy sailboat and guide it around the park’s main pond. You could also immerse them in French culture by taking them to see a marionette show in one of the puppet theaters in the park. If none of these activities catch your fancy, bring along a racket or a ball and take part in tennis or basketball games. Or you could always simply lay back and read a good book in the English-style gardens after buying a delicious salted caramel ice cream from one of the little Parisian kiosks.

These stunning gardens offer something for everyone. To feel truly “Parisien”, bring saucisson, cheese, and wine, and enjoy a picnic with friends or family in the summertime!
