This is not your typical café. Just down the street from the Gare de l’Est, Café A is something of a secret, hidden in a historic place. Located in a former convent, it’s an exceptional venue, unique in Paris thanks to its cool interior and exterior spaces and wide variety of events.
Nestled in the Maison de l’Architecture in Paris’s 10th Arrondissement, this stylish bar, café, and restaurant hosts delicious brunches in a beautiful garden, live music in a decommissioned chapel, and chic after-works with tasty meals and a great atmosphere. If you appreciate architecture and good acoustics, then this is the place to go!
The building is also home to The Récollets, a center which provides housing to foreign artists and researchers and also serves as offices for the Ile de France Order of Architects and the Maison de l’Architecture. So you’ll surely meet some interesting international people here too.
I’d been living in the 10th for eight years when I first found out about Café A. Like many Parisians, I was looking for the best places to go in my neighborhood, partly so that I’d have a good excuse to make my friends come to my place and partly to avoid addresses that were too popular or over-promoted online. Thanks to some good ole fashioned bouche-à-oreille (word of mouth), I discovered this relatively unknown gem.
I’m so grateful that my new favorite spot isn’t too easy to find. And I must confess, I really didn’t want it to be known to the whole World Wide Web. But I’m trusting the Urbansider community with my secret.
So let’s keep this just between us!
