Hotel Paradiso

If you’re a film buff searching for a place to stay in Paris, look no further than Hotel Paradiso. This movie-theater-meets-hotel concept from French cinema chain mk2 puts a 10-foot screen, laser projector, and proper cinema sound in every room.

My husband and I booked a weekend here on a whim, curious to see if the concept actually lived up to the hype. When we arrived, a welcome note was waiting along with complimentary popcorn — a nice touch that immediately set the tone.

Our room, like all the rooms here, was clearly designed with one thing in mind: movie-watching.

A large, comfy bed sat opposite the sliding doors to our balcony, but don’t let the light and airy look fool you — the thick remote-control curtains close to block out every bit of light, perfectly setting the stage for the roll-down screen.

Just one tap on the in-room tablet and the bedroom transforms into a private movie theater. The screen is crystal clear and the speakers are excellent too. I strongly recommend watching a film with an awesome soundtrack while you’re here.

And when you inevitably crave popcorn? You can order it through the tablet and have it delivered to your room! We may have done this more than once.

Streaming options come built into the tablet too — Netflix, Prime Video, MyCanal, Mubi, Carlotta Films, Arte, and more, all included in your stay. Book one of the two Cinema Suites and you’ll even get access to current box office releases.

Even though movies were the main star of our hotel room, there were quite a few other nice amenities too.

Our bathroom was modern and functional for a couple, though it’s worth noting: while there’s a proper door to the toilet for privacy, the glass shower doors open right into the entry way of the room.

This setup works fine if you’re traveling with a partner, but could be a bit awkward if you’re sharing with friends or colleagues.

Beyond that quirk, the shower had good water pressure and quality toiletries were waiting, along with enough counter space to spread out a bit.

The air conditioning worked well and kept the room comfortable, while the top-notch soundproofing did its job of shutting out the noise from Boulevard Diderot below as well as any movie-watching neighbors.

And beyond your in-room cinema, there’s a private karaoke room you can reserve too. We booked it for an evening and had a genuinely good time belting out terrible renditions of our favorite songs.

But if you want something more unique, consider La Loge — a private glassed-in six-seat box overlooking one of the main cinema screens in the attached mk2 movie theater next door.

Hotel Paradiso Rooftop

Up on the rooftop bar, Paris spreads out before you in a pleasant panorama. On warm evenings, an outdoor screen shows films, though you’ll need to reserve ahead for the rooftop screenings. We spent some time up there at sunset with drinks in hand, watching the city shift from day to night.

Location-wise, you’re near Place de la Nation in the 12th — not quite the heart of central Paris, but that’s part of its appeal. It feels more local, less overtaken by tourists, yet you’re still well-connected. The RER A and several metro lines just a few minutes’ walk away, so you can reach most of the major sights in Paris in just 20-30 minutes.

Hotel Paradiso works particularly well for film lovers, couples wanting something different, or groups planning a movie marathon. Actually, between the karaoke room, private loge boxes, and in-room cinemas, this unusual boutique Paris hotel would be a great pick for a bachelor or bachelorette party; it’s certainly more fun than your typical hotel options!

Even Paris locals would love this for a staycation that’s a proper escape. Just settle in, order that popcorn, put on a film you’ve been meaning to watch, and let the rest fade away for a while.
