If you’re lucky enough to be in Paris during July and August, head to the northeast corner of the city to catch a movie under the stars on the lawn of the Parc de La Villette.

Wednesday-Sunday nights, the open-air cinema presents a wide range of movies, playing everything from Nouvelle Vague classics to Mars Attacks!, with kid-friendly films also on the program. All movies are shown in VO (Version originale, meaning not dubbed) with French subtitles, so it can be a great way to practice your French too!

The program for Summer 2023 hasn’t yet been announced, but we’ll update this article with the link here as soon as it’s available.

Although the films don’t start till after dark (around 10pm at the height of summer!), be sure to get there an hour or two early to get a good spot and enjoy a picnic before the movie begins. You’re free to bring whatever food and drink you wish, but metal corkscrews and cutlery are prohibited. And it’s alright if you didn’t have time to grab your blanket, bottle of wine, or baguette—lounge chairs are available to rent (for a fee) and a concession stand sells popcorn, wine, beer, as well as other snacks and soft drinks.

Located in the laid-back 19th Arrondissement, the Parc de La Villette is loved by locals but sees relatively few tourists. A favorite of true Parisians and new Parisians, a night at the movies here really makes Paris feel like home.
