Where to begin with Le Caveau de la Huchette? The cavernous club’s history stretches all the way back to the 1500s, when it was said to be a meeting place for the Templars and Freemasons.

In 1949, the club became an important part of transcontinental jazz history. Legendary American musicians like Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Art Blakey, Sidney Bechet, and Bill Coleman all performed here, as well as leading French jazz musicians like Claude Luter and Claude Bolling.

More recently, Le Caveau has found itself back in the spotlight thanks to the Oscar-winning film La La Land, in which actor Ryan Gosling performs a tender piano solo on the club’s stage.

Today, tourists and locals alike can enjoy lively performances from a roster of big band and jazz acts that pass through. Don’t linger too long in the upstairs bar though, and instead head down to the ancient stone cellar, which will surely transport you back to a bygone era. Here, you can dance, sing, and swing to your heart’s desire.
