The old-fashioned hot chocolate (called l’Africain) served with whipped cream is so rich, your spoon nearly stays upright, and so gorgeous that Coco Chanel drank it daily while sitting at table no. 10. And you can even try and recreate the experience at home with their bottled hot chocolate.

Extensively renovated over the last few years, the Hôtel de Crillon is one of the historic grand hotels of Paris. Entering through its doors alone is a special treat. The sumptuousness of the décor and furnishings and the attentiveness of the staff are, alas, mirrored in its prices. But, considering that you’ll be sitting in the winter garden admiring its stunning floral displays while sipping a rich, sweet, and thick hot chocolate, it can double as lunch, right?

Miles from the grand and the old, this cozy café in the hip 20th Arrondissement is easy-going, colorful, modern, and serves a mean hot chocolate. So sweet that it lets you forget the winter chills. It’s fluffy and oh-so drinkable! Sit back with a book, or stay for lunch, L’Abribus is a fabulous place to linger after visiting Père Lachaise without racking up too much of a bill.
